The Best Way to Brew Tea While Camping

Breaking away from my normal day-to-day activity and taking time outside is something I try to prioritize. Whether it be a stroll around the neighborhood, hiking, or even camping over the weekend, being outdoors is something I always look forward to. I love experiencing the sights, sounds, and smells. Taking that time to slow down and truly experience the beauty of nature helps me appreciate the world in a whole new way. When I camp, I always look forward to my cup of coffee in the morning to start my day, but in the afternoon, I look forward to a cup of tea. There is something really soothing and comforting about a cup of tea in the afternoon as I enjoy the smell of a campfire. It may just be my opinion, but I believe your coffee or tea tastes even better when you are in nature.

How to Brew Tea Outdoors

Some of you may wonder how you can brew a delicious cup when you are away from the comfort of your kitchen. Luckily, there is no need to pack your delicate teacups or teapot. In fact, all you need is a saucepan, a strainer, and some sturdy mugs or thermoses. The type of water you use to brew is critical when it comes to a delicious cup. For this reason, I recommend packing a few water bottles, especially if fresh spring water is unavailable. To heat the water, you will want to fill your saucepan and place it over a fire until the water begins to boil. Once heated, you can pour the water over the tea leaves in a cup, let it steep for 3-5 minutes (less or more time depending on the tea), and then use a strainer to pour the brewed tea into your drinking mug or thermos. If you are more of a “glamper” and have the convenience of a stove or hotplate, then, by all means, ditch the pot and bring your favorite kettle.

Our Favorite Teas for Camping

The goal of camping is to relax from the daily stresses and take-in the beauty of nature. With that in mind, it is important to bring teas that are not only flavorful but will allow you to refresh and unwind. I love picking herbal blends that are full of natural ingredients like spices, flowers, and fruits. Blends that almost make you feel like you went into the forest and compiled the ingredients yourself that day. Chai teas are very earthy and warm, with a beautiful aroma. While chamomile blends, with additional flavors of lavender and mint, are soothing to the soul and will provide a restful night’s slumber. Fruit teas are exceptional iced and will make a refreshing drink while exploring the outdoors.

Hackberry recently released a new black tea that is the epitome of camping. The Bourbon Cream Black is the perfect brew to enjoy among friends as you sit back enjoying the warmth of the fire and conversation. It is the perfect booze-free drink that will provide that similar caramelly, oak flavor you want from a glass of bourbon. Whether I am camping, or wishing I was, the Bourbon Cream tea is ideal for when I want a soothing and comforting drink that will always remind me of the magical memories made in nature.
